The Leaving

She wondered,
where had the time gone?
It seemed just yesterday they played,
and held hands on the way
to the park to fly
together down the slide or up
two swings side by side.
Now she is gone, she has left
to go after other dreams

and the child grieves over
her mother’s leaving.
